WORK IN PROGRESS

Data and documentation will be released progressively alongside future research publications.

Our upcoming paper, “Revisiting Global Trends of Child Labour from 2000 to 2024,” will be presented this year at the annual meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA), as well as at the European Population Conference (EPC).

Data presented in our article published in Population & Societies are available on the INED website.

The same indicators are provided below, with additional detail, including measures of statistical uncertainty, and covering all surveys currently available in the CLD-INED database.

Data and Method

The surveys include Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) with a child labour module from rounds 3 to 6, harmonized by the IPUMS MICS project (last updated July 11, 2025). We also use data from round 2 MICS available on the UNICEF website.

Sampling errors are estimated using the jackknife method, which accounts for uncertainties arising from the MICS survey design. When the bootstrap method produces a larger error than the corresponding jackknife estimate, the bootstrap error is retained instead. Such replacements are mostly applied to observations based on small sample sizes of children.

The CLD-INED data are published under a CC BY 4.0 license.

Available indicators

The indicators below can be explored by sex across surveys. Estimates include measures of statistical uncertainty. Metadata (definitions, sources, and methods) are provided with each dataset.
